Big Night Out 09 - The Ting Tings!

BIG NIGHT OUT 09' @ The Fort Canning Park - Day 1

Featuring..

The TING TINGS!!

with special guest appearance

Wiley
&
Force Vomit

Many special thanks to Red Bull for the passes and Ann for making it all happen!

When Cassy and I heard that Red Bull was involved in the Ting Tings concert last December, we immediately requested to be put on shift for the night in hopes that we would be able to attend the concert as well. To my dismay, I found out that we weren't going to be stationed at the concert venue but somewhere nearby to target concert goers! Imagine my disappointment when I saw the sampling brief! Nonetheless, I did promise to work for the night so oh wells, work it is.

Being responsible and stuff did pay off cos Ann called the next day (this morning) and said that she managed to get tickets/passes to the concert for us!! Since Red Bull was going to be sold at the concert, we were instructed to only "sample" (distributing Red Bull cans as samples) the performers, organisers and helpers - thus the need for the backstage passes! So what's better than a normal concert ticket/pass? A Backstage Pass of course!!!! o(>3<)o

Sound checks and stage preparation. Check out our HUGE Red Bull tentage! Man I feel like bringing back all the guitars and the drums. >_<

The Ting Tings mini drum!

They even had a Red Bull mini fridge on stage where we filled them up with lots of Red Bull!

Cass N. and I with one of the sound crew. "Red Bull gives you wings!!" =D

The super long queue of fans waiting to enter

The crowd inside started out a little small as we were leaving to meet Ann and Pearl for dinner but the place filled up by the time we got back and the crowd was rockin'!! You could hear people chanting "Ting Tings! Ting Tings!" non-stop, all eager for the Ting Tings to come onstage. Finally, at around 10pm, when they finally came on, the crowd went wild!! Wow. The crowd, I tell you, was amazing! They were all so lively and enthusiastic!

And the Ting Tings? omg mind blowing can!!!!! They were sooo good and Katie did a good job interacting with the crowd! They really did liven the whole place up!

Although different from the last concert I went to (Linkin Park - lots of moshing, headbanging & screaming. AWESOME!) in terms of genre, crowd and atmosphere (?), it was really alot of fun as well! I enjoyed myself tremendously and I think I actually do like the whole open air concert concept! Its relaxing, not as crowded and there is definitely more room to dance away!!

At the entrance

Pearl, Ann, Cassy and myself all pumped up for the concert!

After the Ting Tings did their last encore song, Cassy and I rushed backstage to make sure we were there to offer them a can of Red Bull each and also to take a photo with them! XD They were really very nice and I would say we were really very lucky to have been able to meet them in person.

Haha and I think I can now die of happiness.

TADAH!!!

Jules de Martino and Katie White with Cassy & Me!! woot!! ♥♥

I love Red Bull!!!

WE WILL ROCK YOU - Queen Musical!

We will rock you, a musical by Queen and Ben Elton blew my mind away today! The costumes, set and most importantly, the Queen songs were awesome!! Queen fans or not would enjoy and love the show to the max! Having seated 11 rows from the front, it was by far the best seat I've sat in for any musicals at the esplanade! To top it off, Vane and I only got our tickets for $50 at student price! We were actually willing to pay $140 for the best seats since we both loved Queen so much therefore it was a steal when we got them at such a cheap price!! I LOVE being a student!

The show was spectacular with fantastic music played by the live band. I particularly loved the costumes, dance and the use of the LCD screen that cost $2 million or so I heard. Most of the female dancers were really hot with great bods too! XD

The story takes place in the future where rock is dead and all music instruments are destroyed. Galileo Figaro played by Miguel Ayesa, plays a young rebel who refuses/fails to conform with the majority who wear the same fashion and think the same thoughts. In a world where music is generated and downloaded through computers, Galileo, together with some other 'Bohemians' work together to fight against Globalsoft, a company who runs the world.

Miguel Ayesa,
who starred as Galileo was a little disappointing though. He wasn't bad, just not spectacular. I thought he wasn't powerful enough and that I didn't feel the "oomph" in his performance. He was actually a little bit annoying. I figured it could be because he was supposed to be some kid. Oh well I think it was probably because I had a higher expectation before watching. I think the only cast worth mentioning was Pop, the old bohemian guy. He was natural, engaging and funny! Vane is in love with him. haha!

Anyway, the familiar Queen songs got both Vane and I moving and singing along with them in our seats. We were itching to stand up to actually dance along therefore when the cast on stage invited the audience to stand for 'We will rock you', both of us jumped up and started clapping, singing and dancing! It was great seeing the whole theatre singing and dancing along with the cast! The energy level was amazing and we were still high even after the show ended!

I also loved how they made references to Singapore such as Bugis street and Dick Lee! haha! A fun and entertaining production that I recommend to all. Do grab the student tickets if you are one because its really value for money!! It was also so good that Vane and I are going to watch it again in London this summer since the London cast would be even better!

From The Straits Times online,

"Rockin' it with Queen, well almost... Having rocked over six million people since its West End debut in 2002, the multi-million dollar jukebox musical 'We Will Rock You' hits the shores for a one month run at the Esplanade.

Thunderous tunes from rock n' roll legends Queen infused with a tickling script from comedian Ben Elton, the three hour musical tells of the age-old quest for freedom, raked with interspersed romance and the enduring vigour of rock music.

Best of 2007

2007 has been one of the most memorable year for me. It was the year where I laughed alot, CRIED alot and experienced quite a no. of "first times". XD

I started off the year with a Chinese New Year Cosplay shoot, with the four of us (Reiko, Ka, Kaika and myself) cosplaying characters from Bleach. We wanted our photoshoot to be held at the Japanese Garden, unfortunately it wasn't open and so we settled for the Chinese Garden.

Featuring..

The Captains
Reiko as Toushirou Hitsugaya (10th Division)
Ka as Byakuya Kuchiki (6th Division)

The Vice Captains
Kaika as Rangiku Matsumoto (10th Division)
Myself as Abarai Renji (6th Division)

A few of us were then called to attend this event at Zouk called Eazy Peezy Very Japaneezy for the Onitsuka Tiger Launch. The theme was well as you can see anything Japanese and so I guess they needed cosplayers like us to just mingle about. Although I think the only reason why they called us was because of free labour. But nonetheless, the sushi was good. haha. So here we are, camwhoring outside zouk before going in.

Reiko as Bunta
Myself as Niou
from
Prince of Tennis

Before B1 (reiko) left for Japan in April, the bananas, B1 (reiko), B2 (myself), B4 (Sammy) and Michies went to Sentosa for our last outing together. We had a blast, doing nothing and just lazying around at Cafe Del Mar.

Red Bull

Being a mobile energiser for the Red Bull Wings Team is still one of the best job ever.

BUNGY BAR

This was one of the "first times" for me. It was my first time working at a bar. Despite the disapprovals from my parents, I still ended up working at Bungy Bar from June - November. In this case, it wasn't the job that made it so memorable, but the people. The amount of fun that we had during work and after work made all the long tiring days of work worthwhile.

Not forgetting our crazy and well-missed Monday Movie Nights.

We got along so well that all of us went for a trip to Tioman in July together! Sun , sand and sea!
Another "first time" - Fishing!

The next major event of the year was my 21st Birthday! The theme was Film Noir and it was held at NSRCC.

The party day!

On my actual birthday, 6th August, the bungy peeps gave me a suprise birthday celebration at Bungy Bar! The cake was HUGE

Made new friends with a whole bunch of arty farty peeps.
Wan, Ayid and Sarah!
Superb photos using the Nikon D40x and Canon 400D

Haha and the closest I got to being a DJ was appearing as a guest for the Muttons @ Midnight's Catch of the Week. It was an unforgettable experience! Justin and Vernon were great hosts and are really wonderful people.

Yet another "first time", going visiting on Hari Raya in a kebaya!
It was super rush after that because we had to change for the Halloween party at Zouk!

AND! THE BEST AND UNFORGETTABLE CONCERT OF THE YEAR..... LINKIN PARK!!!!
I am soooo glad rice and I managed to see them live at the indoor stadium only about 8-10 rows from the stage! Now how close is that! It was great despite all the moshing and smelling of sweat after. Unforgettable!

This date was very memorable and it was also my first time up the hot air balloon!

And last but not least, ending my Year 2007, was a 24 days trip to Japan! (Photos of which I will post them at a later date). I hope my 2008 will be as good as 2007! XD

I think this post must have been my longest post ever in my blogging life. ha
