Heroes Season 3 Premiere Screening Party @ GV VivoCity

31.11.2008 (Friday)

I was fortunate to be picked by Ripplevox to attend the Heroes Season 3 Premiere Screening Party at GV VivoCity held by Starworld last Friday. Being able to watch the first 2 episodes on the big screen was something I was really looking forward to! After all, it beats watching them on my small pathetic monitor screen anytime (which I have been doing so for the past 2 seasons).

Anyhows, not knowing what to expect, I headed down to VivoCity and was thrilled to see HUGE posters of SYLAR ♥ and the other characters plastered onto the walls at GV! =D Since my friend was running late, I decided to get our passes and goodie bag first, JUST IN CASE they ran out of it! (inborn kaisu-ism lar, singaporean mah!)

The Pass/Invitation Card! Nice hor.

Suddenly out of nowhere, these cheerleaders with goth-like make up came in. I didn't get the whole look really. It was just weird! More over, they didn't even do anything else other than just pose for cameras. Weren't they, as cheerleaders, supposed to cheer or dance or do some cheerleading related stuff at least? Well, I like the uniform though.

The Cheerleaders

Envy and myself with the scary looking cheerleaders!

While the invited guests proceded to the buffet table, I went around taking pictures with the standees and other posters! (I wish they had more of sylar!)

Sylar looking bad ass! ♥

A mini quiz game thing went on during the party where participants would receive the latest Heroes graphic novel if they answered the questions correctly. Such an easy task, so why not?

I was asked which character I liked best, why and what super ability would I choose if I were given a choice. Sylar was my choice (duh) because he is hot and bad ass! haha! There is so much about him that you want to find out about, to see how his brain works, what he is thinking about and many more. Heroes would definitely be boring without him.XD I chose the power of the mind for my super ability because with the ability to manipulate and control the minds of others, nothing is impossible! I do hope Matt Parkman's ability would improve and exceed his dad's.

Answering the question.

with Envy!

Stuff from the goodie bag!
(Clockwise) The Heroes Graphic Novel that I won, a paper tote bag, some cardboard folder, notebook and Heroes T-shirt!

Review

(Contains Spoilers!)

HEROES Season 3: VILLIANS

The show starts off 4 years in the future. We see future scar-faced Peter being chased and ends up being held at gun point by Claire. As Claire shoots, Peter stops Claire and time travels to present day. So who's the bad or good guy now?

We see hotter, tougher, less whiney Claire here with future Peter whose mouth to me looks even more crooked than usual. =X

We also find out who was it who shot Nathan and it was none other than future Peter! *SHOCKS* So anyways, Nathan dies but miraculously revives from the dead! What is happening? Nathan decides to not tell the truth about them anymore and believed it was the work of God that saved him. We then get a suprising visit by none other than Linderman! Just when I thought the old man was gone. So was it Linderman that saved Nathan?

Peter kissing his dead brother.

Linderman still alive??!

While all these were happening, Sylar manages to find Claire and slices her head open! Yay! Well done sylar!

So apparently, Sylar doesn't eat the brains of his victims to get their powers. He studies them by prodding and digging the brain. ♥ Here we see Sylar studying Claire's brain.

Claire: Aren't you going to eat my brain?
Sylar: Eat your brain? Claire, that's disgusting.

As I thought Claire was FINALLY going to die, Sylar tells her she can't die. pfft. oh well I should have known but at least now Sylar is immortal too!! haha!

In Japan at Yamagoto Industries, we see a bored Hiro talking to Ando when he receives a video tape from his late father, telling him not to open the safe. Hiro does the opposite and finds another tape telling him that he wasn't supposed to open the safe. Nonetheless, Hiro finds half of a secret formula and before he could decipher it, it gets stolen in a flash! Hiro stops time and we are introduced to a new character Daphne, a speedster! Later in the episode, Hiro travels to the future to see how the world is destroyed and sees himself getting killed by Ando!!

Ando has powers too??

In the Butterfly effect, Mama Petrelli enters the company's basement only to find Hiro, Matt, Peter and Mr Bennet dead, while Claire's head was being pulled off by one of the villians. Mama Petrelli then sees Adam (omg I thought he's dead?), someone who looks like niki, papa parkman and the black guy who's name I forgot. It seemed to be her turn next. Then to my surprise, Sylar appears from behind and places his shoulder on mama petrelli's shoulder!! Did Sylar join the good side?? Mama Petrelli then wakes up and realises its a dream.

Meanwhile, prata man Mohinder has been experimenting on himself with a new formula that he came up with. The injection that he gave himself in the previous episode allowed him to have superhuman strength and climb walls! Like Spiderman perhaps? XD

Prata man showing off his abilites to Maya.
We also see romance between Maya and Mohinder. Seriously, that was super gross. I don't even know why Maya is still in the show. She doesn't add to the development of the story and she is still sooo annoying! Mohinder, despite my dislike for him, is still unfortunately a rather important character in the series. Personally I think the producers just wanted to add a sex scene to spice up the episode. It was just the wrong couple unfortunately. Mohinder and Maya. *shudders*

Some side effects however to his new found abilities. Is he moulting? Shedding skin? Doesn't this remind you of The Fly with the climbing of walls and now this? Hmm losing originality much?

Prata Man sheding flesh? skin?

The episode ends with a shocking revalation! Mama Petrelli enters the cell with Sylar (he was captured somewhere during the episode) and tells him she's his mom. OMFG.

Overall, the new season of Heroes looks promising! So be sure to catch the episodes on Starworld (Channel 18) every Thursday at 10pm!!

Lastly, I would really like to thank Lin, Ripplevox and Starworld for giving me the opportunity to attend this wonderful event. I enjoyed myself alot and watching Heroes on the big screen was really awesome! ^__^ THANK YOU!

Tarsem Singh's Movie - The Fall

For fans of Lee Pace from Pushing Daisies, you will be happy to find him as Roy Walker as the lead star in The Fall, a 2006 film by Tarsem Singh.

Taken from Wiki,

"The movie's story centers around Roy Walker, a bedridden man in a hospital, who befriends a fellow patient, a young girl called Alexandria, and starts telling her a vivid, fantastical story of exotic lands. The trailer names a group of five steampunk staple heroes, an Indian, an ex-slave, an explosive expert, a masked bandit, and in a bit of revisionist history, famed evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin. They unite to fight a common enemy, Gov. Odious, the "bad man."The Fall premiered at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival. For its wide theatrical release in 2008, the film is presented by David Fincher & Spike Jonze."

With stunning visuals and wonderful music, this is one show definitely worth watching! The only problem is wondering if it will be shown in theaters here in Singapore! I really hope they do because this is something you really have to watch on the big screen to really enjoy it.

Check out some of the movie stills and the trailer at the end. Awesome movie I say!

Lord of the Flies

LORD OF THE FLIES

Lord of the Flies by William Golding has got to be one of my favourite novel of all time. I remembered being introduced to this amazing novel when I had to perform a scene (as Simon! XD) from this book for my LAMDA group recital exam piece back in 2000 and later as my O level literature text in 2002. Basing much of his plot and some characters on the book, The Coral Island by Robert M. Ballantyne, William Golding writes this allegoric novel (a literary work in which characters, events, objects, and ideas have secondary or symbolic meanings) about a group of British school boys stuck on a deserted island after surviving a plane crash during a world war. The boys later try to govern themselves with disastrous end results. A fantastic story with its theme reflecting the dark side of human beings that can cause the breakdown of society if it overpowers reason and right thinking.

As William Golding explained,

"The theme is an attempt to trace the defects of society back to the defects of human nature. The moral is that the shape of a society must depend on the ethical nature of the individual and not on any political system however apparently logical or respectable. The whole book is symbolic in nature except the rescue in the end where adult life appears, dignified and capable, but in reality enmeshed in the same evil as the symbolic life of the children on the island. The officer, having interrupted a man-hunt, prepares to take the children off the island in a cruiser which will presently be hunting its enemy in the same implacable way. And who will rescue the adult and his cruiser? (E.L. Epstein. "Notes on Lord of the Flies." The Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. New York: Berkley Publishing Group, 1954, Page 204)."

Not only is this novel exciting, it has many hidden meanings and it tells us about us, about our culture and the world we live in. A highly recommended read for all and for those who have read it, play the Lord of the Flies Game over at Nobelprize.org.

And here is the film adaption of Lord of the Flies. Do watch it!!
